CPR for the PROFESSIONAL RESCUER, AED and FIRST AID
INSTRUCTOR: Bobbi Houghton
This class develops the knowledge for prevention and the skills necessary
for administering immediate care to victims of accidents or sudden illness
occurring in home and outdoor environments. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
and personal safety are also emphasized. Successful completion will
lead to standard first aid and personal safety and adult CPR certification.
This course is the same as standard with the addition of child &
infant CPR. Attendance is mandatory for certification.
CPR/AED RECERTIFICATION

Renew your CPR or AED certification by passing the written and practical
exam in this “challenge” class. FPR (professional rescuer)
- you will need to bring your own pocket mask. There is a $20 additional
fee for those requiring FPR certification.
LIFEGUARD TRAINING

The primary purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding program
is to provide lifeguard candidates and lifeguards with the skills and
knowledge necessary to keep the patrons of aquatic facilities safe in
and around the water.
On successful completion of the course, participants receive two certificates:
one for American Red Cross Lifeguard Training which is valid for three
years, and the second for American Red Cross CPR which is valid for
one year. Attendance is mandatory for certification.

WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTION
INSTRUCTOR: Bobbi Houghton
This class will teach the fundamentals needed for all levels of swimming
instruction. Students should be proficient swimmers and possess current
First Aid and CPR certification. WSI certification is often required
for summer employment at camps, athletic clubs and recreation departments.
Note: Attendance is mandatory for certification.
WATSU®, Instructor Training

Watsu is a form of aquatic bodywork which applies the ancient principles
of Zen Shiatsu from Japan and Tantsu from India while being floated
in warm water. The result is profound relaxation. . . .
Many believe that Watsu is the most significant advance in bodywork
in our times. A bodywork modality which can have specific therapeutic
results and profound healing on many levels of a person’s being.
This course focuses on the Basics of Watsu, the therapist is grounded
in stance while floating and stretching someone to the rhythm of the
connected breaths.
This 16 hour class is recognized by The Worldwide Aquatic Bodywork Association
(WABA) and the hours will count towards completion of your Practitioner
Certification.
Fee for class is $500 or $350 for UCSB students. (Must be a registered
UCSB student for this discounted rate).

WILDERNESS MEDICINE
Wilderness and backcountry medicine differs significantly from conventional
EMS and standard Red Cross courses that are oriented to the urban environment.
In these courses, you will learn to deal with medical emergencies when
help is miles away and dialing 911 is not an option. You will be prepared
for emergency situations that involve prolonged patient care, severe
environments and improvised equipment.
WILDERNESS FIRST AID
INSTRUCTOR: WMA Staff
Wilderness First Aid is an excellent introduction to wilderness medicine.
Anyone who spends time in the outdoors owes it to themselves and their
partners to take this 16 hour course. Successful completion of the course
will include Wilderness First Aid and CPR certifications from Wilderness
Medical Associates which are both valid for 3 years.
